Executive Elections

SACREs in paid-up membership are invited to nominate one candidate for election as trustee to serve on the NASACRE Executive; the normal length of service is 3 years.

Being a member of the Exec is an active role, requiring a commitment of time and energy to support the work of NASACRE in serving the SACREs.  Exec members are not paid for their services, and do not represent specific SACREs or faith groups.  They must be over 18 and cannot have been previously disqualified as a trustee or company director, be an undischarged bankrupt or have certain unspent criminal convictions.

Trustees are bound by the Constitution and are responsible for ensuring NASACRE operates within its stated purposes and legal requirements.  Guidance on what it means to be a trustee is found here:

NASACRE seeks to appoint up to 8 trustees to cover the following roles in 2025: Secretary, Assistant Treasurer and 6 Exec members to our 3 specific key areas of work.  There will be at least two members and a NASACRE officer working on each aspect.

Potential Exec members should choose 1 or 2 of these according to their expertise:

  • Communications with oversight of the NASACRE’s communications, including SACRE Briefings, website, social media, in collaboration with the Admin Officer and Assistant to the Chair
  • Training and Conference with oversight of the annual training programme, conference and AGM in collaboration with the Vice-Chair
  • Development with oversight of NASACRE’s Development Plan, in collaboration with the Chair and the Treasurer

The SACRE Chair or Vice Chair may make one trustee nomination for your SACRE.

Role Descriptions


Role Descriptor for Treasurer / Assistant Treasurer (2-year commitment)

The role of TREASURER carries the responsibility to:

  • attend Executive meetings and the Annual General Meetings
  • advise NASACRE Trustees on all matters involving NASACRE finance
  • maintain a strategic overview of NASACRE’s financial status and patterns of income and expenditure
  • manage relations with the bank holding the NASACRE account, including online banking
  • ensure robust systems are in place for the authorising of expenditure and for protecting NASACRE’s finances from fraud or other risk
  • action authorised outgoing expenditure and ensure payments are made promptly
  • liaise with the Admin Officer concerning invoicing and compliance with LA financial systems
  • in collaboration with the Admin Officer, ensure that receipts are checked against invoices, and that unpaid invoices are followed up
  • prepare a Statement of Accounts at Financial Year End, together with an Annual Report for presentation at the AGM

Role Descriptor for Secretary (2-year commitment)

The role of SECRETARY carries the responsibility to:

  • attend Executive meetings and the Annual General Meeting and take Minutes
  • liaise with the Chair to draw up the agenda for meetings
  • collate and circulate meeting papers to the Executive
  • maintain an electronic archive of Minutes
  • keep the record of service for Trustees
  • work with the Admin Officer to prepare papers for the AGM
  • undertake representative work on behalf of NASACRE as required
  • support the compilation, editing and proof-reading of SACRE Briefing
  • respond to appropriate requests from the Chair or other trustees
  • respond to email queries to [email protected]
  • respond to appropriate questions from the membership and help prepare questions and answers for the FAQ section of the website

Role Descriptor for Executive Member (3-year commitment)

Being an Exec member is a pro-active role, requiring a commitment of time and energy to support the work of NASACRE in serving the SACREs. 

The role of every Exec Member is to:

  • attend Executive meetings, at least three per year, and the Annual General Meeting of the association
  • contribute appropriate time, support and skills to fulfilling the key functions of the NASACRE Executive (see below)
  • undertake representative work on behalf of NASACRE as required
